What we do.
Founded in 2018 Lynx Historical Martial Arts is a school for the teaching of HEMA, a grassroots movement of scholars and martial artists dedicated to the reconstruction of martial arts with broken lineages. At Lynx we focus on the fighting styles of medieval and renaissance Italy but our interest range far broader across country and tradition.
Who we are.

Simon Rainier
Founder/Maestro Absentia
Gone, but not forgotten. Not dead or anything, just moved away.

Jedd MacMillan
Head Instructor/Owner
A lifelong history and martial arts enthusiast, Jedd started swordfighting in 2016 under Simon Rainier. After training privately for nearly a year until he and Simon decided that they wanted somewhat more than just each other to fight and thus opened Lynx Armizare where he trained and taught until he took over the school when Simon moved off to Campbell River in 2020. Jedd specializes in the italian traditions of Fiore dei Liberi(1409) and Ridolpho Capo Ferro(1610) but also is an active practitioner of highland broadsword and multiple other styles of historical martial arts both armed and unarmed. On martial arts outside the sphere of Hema Jedd has spent several years training in muay thai and dabbling in several other martial arts. Having grown up in performing arts and theater he engages in the non competitive art of stage combat and fight choreography in the local theater community. When not involved in sword fighting or martial arts directly he is also an active dancer, event organizer, and teacher for Lindy in the Loops swing dance society.
